Day 36: Straw Towers

I only got to see one class today because of PSAT testing. I decided to have them do the straw tower challenge. I found a version online that charged the kids for the amount of supplies they used. They had to calculate how much they were spending, and they had to keep their tower under a budget.

When they were finished, I placed a book on their towers, and it had to hold up the book for 10 seconds. Only 2 groups were successful, probably because I didn't really give them enough time. It was fun to watch them think together.

Not terrible, but it didn't hold up the book

It died.

This one held the lighter book.

This group was not full of engineers, and that's ok. It was a fun looking design.
